South African Design Online
I was very sad to see that YouMeHome has closed. They designed and made beautiful beds, in Cape Town. I’m not sure why they closed, but this did make me think of something I started a while back. When moving into my current place a year or so ago, I looked high and low for locally made products to kit out my home. I scoured the shops, design mags, expo listings, markets, internet and Instagram.
I wondered why there was no one listing or reference point that I could go to start the search to find beautiful local tables / shelves / cushions / carpets etc.
I started my own list but I realised that my sleuthing talents (and time) are limited. I have no idea really how many local designers there are here, selling stuff online and looking for people like me to support them. There are already some amazing talents in this list. There could be more…
So here are the beginnings. It’s a Google doc to be shared with whoever, like me, wants to find out more about what’s available in the “kit out your home with local” market.
